John and Alex planned an early 2022 wedding with the vision of timeless, modern, elegant, New York loft edgy in mind. They brought the vision to life with the help of their Florida venue, The Ben, and their planner Gina Marie Events.

From Alex “I’m not big on color so I knew the basis of the wedding would be heavy on black/white. And to tie in the Florida greenery and the fact our venue was overlooking the water, we wanted to go heavy on greenery with our florals – this is where the green accent color came into play. We based any green accents off of John’s jacket!

The Ben was actually the first venue we went to look at and we knew on the spot it was our venue! We both grew up in Florida, but have always loved the New York loft/modern vibe – So we were looking for some space that captured both the Florida/touch of tropical vibe and was cool/modern/edgy loft. After researching online all of these different venues in the south Florida area which were absolutely gorgeous but just didn’t capture our attention, we happened to see The Ben had just re-opened. We planned to go tour the venue and grabbed dinner with friends after. That night, while having a nightcap at the bar, we decided that this was definitely our venue!

My mom gifted me a pin for my bouquet – It was made out of these beautiful opal earrings that her grandmother gifted her. It was nice to have a piece of family with me there.

John had so much fun picking out every aspect of his jacket, including our wedding date embroidered under his collar. There is so much focus on the bride’s attire, so why not have fun with the groom’s!

I was really hesitant to do a first look – I LIVE for the moment the bride walks down the aisle and the groom sees his forever love, but I’m SO glad we did. The day was spent around so many people time during our first look was amazing to just breathe and take a moment together before everything began. Reading our vows in private was amazing, it just made our first look even more special.

Although we did do the first look, there is nothing like the moment you see your future spouse down the aisle. We were both just cheesing so hard the entire time, filled with so much happiness to be there officially getting married!

John’s uncle was actually our officiant! It was so special having a family member be the one to marry us.

During cocktail hour we snuck into the reception room and had a private first dance – again the ceremony had just finished, we did all of our pictures, and were totally overwhelmed walking upstairs into cocktail hour, so it was another little pause for us to just be together.

John and I are foodies and The Ben catering did not disappoint! My favorite thing we did was the gazpacho in lieu of a salad.

The sweetheart table was a must – during dinner we just looked out to our loved ones thinking how freaking cool it was to have everyone there with us.

The cake cutting was so fun but we were wildly unprepared and basically carved a cavern into the side of the cake. The cake was all lemon with lemon buttercream frosting – We recently went to Italy and had this insane lemon cake in Amalfi. When we had that cake we looked at each other and were like yep, we need to figure out how to recreate it for our wedding. Earth and Sugar did an amazing job!

We LOVE to dance so we wanted to make sure that once people were done eating it was straight to the dance floor and we had a party all night – mission accomplished! It was the most fun we’ve ever had just dancing and singing with the most important people in our lives.
